The claim: Video shows Kamala Harris maxim most people who are hospitalized or recently died from COVID-19 are vaccinated

Unvaccinated people are more than ten times more likely to exist hospitalized or die from COVID-19 than vaccinated people, even amid the spread of the delta variant, a CDC report published Sept. 10 constitute.

But in a viral TikTok video that accumulated over 2 million views and xc,000 shares in just over two days, Vice President Kamala Harris seems to contradict this fact, prompting surprise and confusion on social media.

"Nigh every person who is in the infirmary, sick with COVID-19 right now, is vaccinated," she seems to say in the video, which was posted on November. viii. "I'm going to repeat that. Nearly—" she cuts off as people seem to laugh. "Information technology's a fact. Almost every person who is in the hospital, sick with COVID-xix right now, is vaccinated. And fifty-fifty more regrettably, virtually anybody who has recently died from COVID-nineteen was vaccinated."

But the clip is doctored. It was edited from footage of a voice communication that Harris delivered at a vaccine mobilization event in Detroit on July 12, removing the showtime syllable of the word "unvaccinated" to make it appear as if she is saying "vaccinated."

A now-removed tweet of the Harris prune was viewed over 50,000 times, according to Archive.org records, and it also circulated in several Facebook posts.

In the actual oral communication, Harris stated that practically all people who were hospitalized or had recently died from COVID-xix were unvaccinated, according to several videos and a transcript of her comments.

Clip edited to alter VP Harris' statements

Harris did not say what she appears to say in the manipulated video, according to several records of her July 12 oral communication at a Detroit vaccine mobilization event.

The beginning of the clip in the pop TikTok matches up with the 16:53 mark of the White House YouTube video of the spoken communication. A Yahoo Finance livestream and a transcript ostend Harris said the following:

"Virtually every person who is in the infirmary, sick with COVID-19 right now, is unvaccinated," she states in the accost. "I'm going to repeat that. It's a fact." The video cuts out a moment here where she laughs and notes an audience fellow member is "paying attending."

In addition, closely reviewing the video reveals that information technology jumps where the first syllable of the word "unvaccinated" is cut out between 17:22 and 17:23 of the White Business firm YouTube video.

At the time of Harris's accost to the Detroit crowd on July 12, over 99% of Americans who had been hospitalized or recently died from COVID-nineteen were unvaccinated, according to an AP analysis of data from May 2021 that was published on June 29.

And the CDC reported on Sept. 10 that more than xc% of the people hospitalized for COVID-xix at that fourth dimension were unvaccinated, USA TODAY reported.

Our rating: Altered

Based on our enquiry, we rate ALTERED a video that appears to bear witness Harris saying that most people who are hospitalized or recently died from COVID-19 are vaccinated. The clip manipulates footage of Harris' July 12 address at a Detroit vaccine mobilization result. Several records of the speech show that Harris said that almost everyone who was hospitalized or recently died from COVID-19 is unvaccinated.
